Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a general term for conditions affecting the heart or blood vessels. It includes everything from conditions that are inherited or that a person is born with, to those that develop later, such as coronary heart disease, heart failure, stroke and vascular dementia.

CVD affects around 7 million people in the UK and is a significant cause of disability and death, responsible for 1 in 4 premature deaths.

Those in the most deprived 10% of the population are almost twice as likely to die as a result of CVD compared with those in the least deprived 10% of the population.

You are more at risk of having CVD if you have atrial fibrillation (AF), high blood pressure, or high cholesterol, these are known as the ‘high risk conditions’ – ‘ABC’.

You are also more at risk of CVD if you have diabetes, a family history of heart disease, smoke, or come from a black, Asian or minority ethnic background.

The ‘ABC’ high risk conditions (atrial fibrillation (AF), blood pressure and cholesterol) are underdiagnosed and often asymptomatic.

My HQ Limited was founded in August 2015 by Jen Bayly a Cardiac Nurse Specialist from Sussex.

Jen is a highly experienced clinician, project and quality improvement lead. A registered nurse specialised in cardiology, with a background in acute cardiac care and community heart failure specialist nursing. Jen is the founder of My HQ and leads a team of HQ Clinical Health Specialists to deliver heart quality (HQ) health checks and health education in work-place settings. Jen also works freelance across a number of roles, including working as a locum Specialist CVD Nurse in general practice, as an independent Cardiology Expert Witness, and as a clinical advisor supporting NHS organisations to achieve their Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) Prevention ambitions.

The HQ Clinical Health Specialists are a team of  multi-disciplinary healthcare professionals with expert knowledge and extensive experience working in healthcare. We work in partnership with our customers to drive prevention and early detection of increased risk of the ABCD conditions, to educate individuals to ‘know their numbers’, understand risks, help navigate NHS pathways and significantly reduce the risk of serious health events.
